Cortado vs. Latte vs. Cappuccino: A Simple Guide

Same espresso, different amounts of milk, that's the whole secret. Here's how to order with confidence.

Cortado

Equal parts espresso and lightly steamed milk, served small (usually 4–5 oz). Just enough milk to round off the espresso, so you still taste the coffee. Order this when you want strength with a little smoothness.

Cappuccino

Roughly equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and airy foam, around 5–6 oz. The foam gives it a lighter, cloud-like texture. Order this when you want the classic, bold, but topped with froth.

Latte

The mildest of the three: a shot (or two) of espresso with a lot of steamed milk and a thin layer of foam, usually 8–12 oz. Creamy and comforting, and the easiest canvas for vanilla, caramel, or mocha. Order this when you want a bigger, milkier drink.

Not sure which is you? Ask at the counter, we'll point you right.
