What Is a Flat White?

The flat white sits right between an espresso and a latte, and it's the drink to order when you want the coffee to lead and the milk to support, not the other way around.

What's actually in it

A flat white is a double shot of espresso with a thin layer of steamed, velvety milk. There's less milk than a latte and almost no foam, so the espresso stays front and center. The texture is smooth and the drink is smaller, usually around five to six ounces.

Flat white vs. latte vs. cappuccino

A latte has more milk and a light foam cap, so it tastes milder and sweeter. A cappuccino has more foam and feels airier. A flat white is the most coffee-forward of the three, with that glossy microfoam that pours in a clean, even pour.

Who should order one

Order a flat white if a latte usually tastes too milky but a straight espresso is too much. It's the sweet spot for tasting the espresso itself while keeping it smooth and easy to drink.

Come try one in person, we're on Main Street in downtown McAllen, Mon–Sat 10a–6p.
